I read both books Kai Gracen books in one breath and I can’t wait to read more.The second book as dark and as hilarious as the previous one. The world-building is still very good, we are learning things, stuff happens. The plot is cool and action packed. At times things get very gory, but that the charm of Urban Fantasy for me.Still the best part of the book is Kai and other characters. I’m so much enjoying to “living†inside of Kai’s heard. He has an amusing ability to start the sentence with all seriousness and finish with unexpected hilarious punch-line. I just hope he wouldn’t run away from Ryder so much.Their “relationship†is warming up, but while Ryder is obviously in love, Kai doesn’t yet value him back in any way. At least there is the beginning of understanding and a little bit of respect.Also I love how vibrant and dimensional the side characters are. Thought I wish we could see a bit more of sane Sidhe.

Ryder pouring his heart out to Kai -sniff, sniff- just beautiful. But the moment that brought unshed tears to my eyes was between Kai and Sparky."I fell in love with that young boy lying on my workbench as still as he could so we could undo what a monster did to him."-shaky sigh- Greg, Greg, Greg! That man has me falling in love with these characters he passionately potrays and thats talent when its done with only a voice 💖
I love Kai.Seriously, he is one of my favorite characters. He is unapologetically broken(his 'childhood' is beyond black), yet even as he snarls & growls at any fool stupid enough to try & get closer...even after all the pain he has experienced, his heart is beautiful. He is loyal & even tho his foster dad/ owner/ mentor was/is not a warm fuzzy kind of guy ,Kai would do almost anything for him.His reaction & the emotions he felt when Dempsey told him he had cancer about broke my heart.I just adore all of him🙃 I quite look forward to watching his relationship with Ryder develope & grow. I think that Kai is as good for Ryder as Ryder is for our wild cat. Ryder is old race wise...is totally self absorbed, yet is not jaded. Having Kai rant at him over the dragon remains & how no dragons were killed in the getting of said items...totally loved how he pointed out that many folks would be out jobs & money over his Lordly decree to remove all the dragon bits from the museum! It's good for Ryder to see things from another viewpoint.Ryder is good for Kai because he is stubborn & he wants Kai...more importantly he likes Kai😊 The push-pull is fun to witness as they figure out their relationship as well as what the heck else is going on in the story. I look forward to more of story to come!ðŸ‘ðŸ½
I absolutely fell in love with Kai in the first book. Not much has changed for me in regards to this character. I enjoyed the story now with a little more knowledge of the world around Kai. But just like the reader Kai and his compatriots are still learning about their world. This newest adventure sees Kai and Ryder get closer to that relationship that you could see developing in the first book. Also there was a glimpse into Kai's origins. Kai is a fascinating character as is Ryder. The two men are very different and fit so well. The author isn't concentrating on that relationship though in the books, it is a side plot. Kai is the story. He gives us a look into this messed up world in which he lives.I commend the author in the descriptions of the world in the story. The wording used to give us a view is well scripted. It almost edges into a too wordy description but manages, for me at least, to hang just on the edge and give me a wonderful, awe-inspiring look into the imaged world that the author has created. The growth of the characters is evident and intriguing. The plot line though insane is really gripping.I totally enjoyed this book and soooo look forward to the next adventure into Kai's world.
So often the second book in a series fails to capture the spark of the first book, but this second installment builds to even greater heights than the first. Complex, consistent, engaging characters with believable interactions draw you into the fast paced action and quirky, unexpected turns of the story. Hard to put down and flipped right back to the beginning from the last page of the epilogue, to read it again and savor the characters, world building and well crafted language. More please.
